Shimmering beaches, towering mountain peaks and steamy tropical rainforest – Borneo is a naturalist’s paradise. The island is immense –the third-largest in the world, shared by three nations–but we’ve managed to combine the best of the Malaysian sights and experiences in our 2020 convention and pre-and post-conference tours. Trek through ancient rainforest in the shadow of Malaysia’s tallest mountain, see skull relics from Borneo’s headhunting days and explore underwater wonders a short boat ride from our base in Kota Kinabalu. See how modern cities coexist with traditional Dayak culture, and indulge in local cuisine that will leave your taste buds tingling.

Pre Conference Tour.

Dates

In Sarawak, the largest of the Malaysian states, we explore a land of contrasts – from the bustling port city of Kuching to the rainforests and indigenous Iban culture of Batang Ai. We’ll get our hands messy preparing a traditional street-food feast, go monkey spotting on a boating/trekking/swimming adventure at Sarawak’s most popular national park, and get up close and personal with endangered orangutans. Go trekking in Batang Ai, visit a traditional longhouse and see how the Iban people use blowpipes to hunt (this is old headhunting territory but don’t worry, we won’t be on the menu).

Post Conference Tour.

Dates

If you’ve ever wanted to venture into the heart of the Bornean wilderness – snatching rare glimpses of proboscis monkeys, pygmy elephants and wild orangutans – this post-conference tour is for you. We start in Sandakan, visiting a wartime memorial commemorating humanity at its worst, before cruising deep into the Kinabatangan wilds to experience nature at its very best. Sleep in a jungle lodge surrounded by ancient rainforest teeming with wildlife, see adorable sun bears, and soak up Sabah’s colonial history.
