Day 1

Nairobi - Kigali

After lunch in Nairobi fly to Kigali where you will be met by local guides and taken to the nearby 5 star hotel in Kigali for a nice relaxing night.

Day 2

Kigali - Gorilla Mountain Lodge

A leisurely start to the day and then an interesting drive to Volcanoes National Park, home to the endangered Mountain Gorillas. Your charming lodge is located at the foothills of Mount Karisimbi, a short distance from the start of the gorilla trek.

Day 3

Gorilla Mountain Lodge

After an early breakfast we head to the Park Headquarters for the gorilla trekking formalities and briefing. Your group will have a maximum of 8 people and you will be assigned a particular gorilla family group to trek. The trek distance and difficulty will vary depending on which group you are assigned and how far away they are. The walking can be steep and muddy but not overly strenuous.
Nothing can prepare you for the excitement of that first glimpse of the gorilla family in their natural habitat.You will have the opportunity to get right up close to a family of endangered Silverback Gorillas. Standing meters away you can watch as the youth roll around playing and the 200kg+ males effortlessly snap bamboo snacks.
Day 4

Gorilla Mountain Lodge – Kigali – Nairobi

Return to Kigali and visit the Gisozi Genocide Memorial to the million people killed in the 1994 genocide in Rwanda – a very emotional and moving visit but something that is a must when you visit this amazing country.  Transfer to the airport for your late afternoon flight.

Day 5

In flight

Fly from Nairobi via Bangkok to Australia, arriving early morning Friday 31 August.
