Laze on palm-lined stretches of powder-white sand, savour the intoxicating aroma of spices, sail on traditional dhow fishing boats, explore the labyrinthine laneways of historic Stone Town, experience the thriving mélange of African, Arabic, Indian and European cultures – what better place to leave behind your everyday stresses and “pole, pole” (slowly, slowly) relax into your African safari.

Join us on this magical trip to the legendary island of Zanzibar and, as they say in Swahili, “HAKUNA MATATA” (no worries).

 

Day 1

Australia to Bangkok

Depart Australia and arrive in Bangkok for a stopover.

Day 2

Bangkok – Nairobi - Zanzibar

Your long journey is rewarded when you arrive at this gorgeous resort.  Sitting on your private terrace you are mesmerised by the pristine turquoise water as the worries of the world ebb away. You rouse yourself to join your fellow travellers for the iconic African sundowner cocktail and a delicious dinner.

Day 3

Zanzibar Resort

This morning relax at the resort.

This afternoon we drive further up the coast for some snorkelling and to see some local boat-building.  Then step aboard an old-fashioned dhow to return under sail to the resort, lulled by the sea lapping against the hull and the magnificent orange glow of the sunset.

Day 4

Zanzibar Resort

A full day of relaxation at the resort. You may wish to participate in some of the water sports – kayaking, sailboarding or sailing. There is a dive centre where you can arrange a snorkelling or diving expedition. Just walk up the beach to the turtle sanctuary and village. Or perhaps, having some indulgent time at the spar. The idea is to UNWIND!

Day 5

Stone Town

Visit lush Jozani Forest, and discover the medicinal and culinary uses of Zanzibar’s exotic plants. Stroll through the mangroves. Be entertained by red colubus monkeys, unique to Zanzibar , as they soaring nimbly from tree to tree.

Then head off to a family spice plantation. Can you recognise the flavour, the scent, the texture of the tastings? Be surprised by the appearance of your favourite spices before they reach you in a jar!

After lunch, discover Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site. explore the maze of narrow streets and delve into its history as a trading hub that reached heights of opulence on the back of the lucrative ivory, spice and slave trades.

Day 6

Zanzibar - Arusha

This morning fly to Arusha to meet the main conference group.
