One of the World’s most cutting-edge capitals, Tokyo is a city of contrasts. Famous for its cutting edge modernity, neon-lit landscape and towering skyscrapers it is also home to sprawling parklands, peaceful shrines and temples and lovingly tended gardens. Despite its love affair with manga pop culture, fashion, high-tech trends and conspicuous consumption, below the surface is a city that has its roots in an ancient heritage.
This tour offers you a fascinating variety of destinations and experiences – the moving memorials to war in Hiroshima, a chance to visit gorgeous Miyajimi Island and a rejuvenating hot spring (onsen) immersion.
The lecturers have shared their presentations to all delegates. These are for personal reference use only and are not to be shared or copied. If you would like to contact the speakers to request further permission, please email Margot Cunich to get in touch – margot@uncon-conv.com
The local Japanese doctor who spoke at our conference recommended that we watch a Japanese film called “Red Beard”.
Red Beard is the story of a young and arrogant medical graduate. Assigned to serve at an impoverished local clinic, Dr Yasumoto feels he is better than his surroundings. His superior is Dr Niide – known as ‘Red Beard’ – who begins to show the young graduate that there may be more to life than power and prestige.
