Dr Tom Giblin

After graduating from Sydney University, Dr Giblin was accepted into a 3-year Advanced Prosthodontics Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Centre in San Antonio, regarded as one of the top programs in the USA. In his time there, Dr Giblin gained a broad education in all aspects of dentistry, including implant, fixed and removable prosthodontics as well as sleep dentistry, occlusion and TMD.

Dr Giblin has established Northern Dental Specialties as a centre of dental excellence on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. He lectures extensively both in Australia and internationally.  He teaches regular courses at his facility in Mona Vale where dentists from all over Australia visit to learn about Dentures, Occlusion, Dental Implants and Advanced reconstructive Dentistry.

Clinical Prof Bernard Koong

Bernard is a founding partner of Envision Medical Imaging in Western Australia.He is Clinical Professor at The University of Western Australia (UWA) and Clinical Associate Professor at The University of Sydney (USyd). He has a long history of teaching oral and maxillofacial radiology at several universities, including UWA, USyd, The University of Hong Kong and Griffith University and contributes to training the Western Australian radiology registrars of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR).

As an invited speaker, Bernard has presented more than 130 lectures to the dental and medical professions around the world. Bernard is the author of the Atlas of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (Wiley-Blackwell, 2017). He is also the author of the radiology chapter of the 6th edition of Lindhe and Lang’s Clinical Periodontology and Implant Dentistry (Wiley-Blackwell, 2015). Bernard is the President of the Australian Academy of Dento-maxillofacial Radiology.

A/Prof Sharon Liberali

A/Professor Liberali is the Director and Senior Consultant of the Special Needs Unit, Adelaide Dental Hospital, SA Dental Service, and holds an honorary Associate Dental Consultant position at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. She is the Program Director of the specialist training program in Special Needs Dentistry at the School of Dentistry, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Adelaide and is the Principal Dentist at Health Partners Dental.

A/Professor Liberali is a past President of the SA Branch of the Australian Dental Association and also the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Special Needs Dentistry. A/Professor Liberali currently Chairs the national ADA Infection Control Committee and is the ADA representative on the HE-023 committee for Standards Australia and the NHMRC Infection Control Guidelines Advisory committee.

Unconventional Conventions aims to ensure that the combination of lectures, workshops, hospital visits, training activities and clinic in the community make up more than 50% of daily activities during the main conference tour.

Many of our travel destinations provide an opportunity for local professional contribution and cultural exchange through workshops and structured visits to local clinics.

Our conference programs are prepared over a 12 month period and full details are available 3 months prior to the conference. Unconventional Conventions is an accredited education provider for RACGP. Application for ACRRM points is made for each conference. Dental programs are certifiable with Dental Board of Australia.  Specialists may apply for CPD points at their own discretion.
