SPEAKERS

Dr Jennifer Sisson – Travel, Tropical and Diving medicine

Dr Jennifer Sisson is currently the Chief Medical Officer of The Travel Doctor TMVC. She has worked in the areas of travel, tropical and diving medicine for over 20 years.

Originally training as a GP she worked in both travel medicine and GP for 10 years. Since 2007 she has been working only for The Travel Doctor TMVC.

Qualifications include a Master in Public Health and Tropical Medicine from James Cook University, Certificate and Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Royal Adelaide Hospital and Certificate in Travel Health (CTH ® ISTM). She is a fellow of both RACGP and ACTM.

She belongs to SPUMS, ISTM and ANZSOM.

Current work includes both retail patients and corporate clients. She works mainly in the areas of travel consultations, medical assessments for pre-deployment, offshore workers and commercial divers. She works in an advisory role as Chief Medical Officer for SHP for governance, policy development and education.

Teaching involves training GP registrars in special skills, teaching medical students in clinic and lecturing, teaching staff within the group for Sonic Health Plus and giving lectures for GP’s, nurses and at conferences.

Publications include RACGP Check programmes on Travel Medicine, ISTM Journal of Travel Medicine and Current Therapeutics. She has been published in other publications and is at times involved with the media.

Dr Mark Montebello – Addiction Medicine

Mark Montebello is a Conjoint Lecturer at the National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, University of New South Wales. His clinical and research interests include: assessment of cannabis dependency; treatment of cannabis withdrawal; treatment of illicit psychostimulant use; smoking cessation; and co-morbidity between substance use and mental health problems. Dr Montebello is also the Medical Manager and Senior Staff Specialist in Addiction Psychiatry for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District Drug and Alcohol Service; Chair, Chapter of Addiction Medicine Education Committee; New South Wales Director of Advanced Training in Addiction Psychiatry; Chair, Steering Committee, Mental Health Drug & Alcohol Office State Wide Training Days for Addiction Doctors; and Psychiatric Member of the Medical Board of Australian Association of Smoking Cessation Professionals (AASCP).

Our Academic Advisory Committees, comprised of practitioners from a range of fields of practice, endeavour to source the best possible speakers to provide a series of presentations, workshops, case studies and panel discussions for each conference.

Unconventional Conventions’ director for the past 20 years is a practicing doctor who takes great pride in offering a comprehensive, stimulating and appropriate academic program. Unconventional Conventions aims to ensure that the combination of lectures, workshops, hospital visits, training activities and clinic in the community make up more than 50% of daily activities during the main conference tour.

Many of our travel destinations provide an opportunity for local professional contribution and cultural exchange through workshops and structured visits to local clinics.

Our conference programs are prepared over a 12 month period and full details are available 3 months prior to the conference. Unconventional Conventions is an accredited education provider for RACGP. Application for ACRRM points is made for each conference. Dental programs are certifiable with Dental Board of Australia.  Specialists may apply for CPD points at their own discretion.

GP in Brookvale, NSW, with interests in travel medicine (ISTM international certificate – CTH 2008), sports medicine (M Sp Med (UNSW) 2001), shared antenatal care (currently on the Northern Area Committee), and Skin cancer (Healthcert skin cancer medicine and surgery certificates).

Dr Jayne Ingham

GP in North Lakes, Queensland, involved in education, teaching of GP registrars and medical students from the University of Queensland . She is Chair of GP partners which is a GP network in Metro North Brisbane. She arranges education sessions for GPs with local specialists and on relevant topics and writes the GP partners monthly bulletin.

A/Prof Ralph Audehm

GP in Carlton, Victoria, and is an Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the Department of General Practice, University of Melbourne. He has had a long-standing interest in the management of chronic conditions in General Practice especially diabetes and heart disease. He teaches medical students, GP registrars and General Practitioners.

Dr Alan Giles

Senior Staff Specialist, Emergency Department, Sydney Adventist Hospital, Wahroonga, NSW. He is the Area Medical Educator in Emergency Medicine and Hospital Skills Program Director for South Western Sydney and Sydney Local Health District.

Dr Margot Cunich

GP in Bondi Junction, NSW, and co-director of Unconventional Conventions. She is the Chair of the Academic Advisory Committee and designs and administers all the conference programs. She teaches medical students and registrars.
