Last weekend saw medical students from around NSW participate in an extracurricular emergency medical challenge organised by students, for students. Unconventional Conventions proudly sponsored the event as we believe that continued professional development throughout one’s career is key to success and enjoyment.

In attendance we students from University of Sydney (USYD), University of NSW (UNSW), University of Wollongong, Western Sydney University, University of Notre Dame Sydney (UNDS), Macquarie University as well as delegates from Armidale from the University of New England.

USYD placed 1st, UNDS 2nd, with UNSW coming 3rd. Macquarie University performed excellently despite being comprised solely of preclinical years – they placed 6th on the day. All teams performed well on the day. Macquarie’s positioning highlights that the EMC places great emphasis on building fundamental principles surrounding communication that are essential and valuable for all junior doctors and medical students, such as closed-loop communication and teamwork.

We are really proud of all the students, markers and participants who participated in the learning experience and would like to thank the Liverpool Sim Centre for hosting the event.

Unconventional Conventions is looking forward to supporting events like this for years to come.
