If you have already seen the regular highlights of South America join us on this tour of some more off-the-beaten-track attractions and chose your own adventure.

Patagonia evokes the image of the last frontier. A fabled landscape of rugged peaks veiled in clouds, lush forests, glaciers that extend to the horizon tumbling into electric-blue lakes, endless steppes unpopulated for hundreds of miles; a herd of guanaco grazing nonchalantly. Join us and discover the breathtaking beauty of Torres del Paine National Park in southern Chile. You pick the excursions and the pace to suit your interest, fitness and mood on the day.

Then cross to the Argentine side to be awed by dazzling glaciers calving into an emerald-green lake in Los Glaciares National Park.

Nature lovers – don’t miss out.

Academic Program.

PATAGONIA ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Patagonia is a magnificent wilderness which you can chose to explore on foot, on horse-back, by bike or in a comfortable vehicle.

The remoteness of the region has informed the topics for the academic program:

Adventure travel

As we and many of our patients undertake more active and challenging travels in more out of the way places it is important for doctors to properly assess and advise them. This series of presentations and practical exercises will provide education about high altitude medicine, extreme climate travel, diving medicals and preparation for wilderness and remote trekking.

Musculoskeletal Medicine

Sporting and exercise-related injuries and musculoskeletal problems are very common, making up 18% of GP consultation 2013-2014 (BEACH study).  The talks will include hands-on teaching of joint examination, joint taping and presentations covering investigation and clinical diagnosis of back pain, musculoskeletal chest pain, knee and hip/groin pain.

Doctors’ health and well-being

This part of the program will consist of half a dozen interactive case studies exploring mandatory reporting of impaired practitioners, the impact of adverse events and cognitive decline in ageing doctors. This series will be of value and interest to doctors and accompanying people.
